A typical cottage by the water on the outskirts of Stockholm — a tiny nest almost floating away from the woods. A place to escape city life, to relax, unplug, and reconnect with nature.
For the interior of this cottage, I designed and built all the furniture with the intention of using as little space as possible while maintaining a constant connection with the outdoors.
Every piece is made to serve a specific function and to fit perfectly in its intended place.
On the ground floor, by the entrance, there is a corner shelf for hanging coats, placing hats and gloves, and storing shoes. In front of the large windows, a sofa and an armchair invite relaxation and contemplation of the view, with shelves and cabinets carefully designed not to block it.
The dining table (Vitruvio) can easily slide into the sideboard, or extend to host dinners with friends. The sideboard next to it includes storage space and a dedicated area for flower pots, herbs, or bottles.
Upstairs, under the sloping roof, there is a wardrobe and a low cabinet. The headboard of the bed integrates shelves and drawers on both sides. The desk is wall-mounted in front of the window, facing the trees and the water. Curtains are hidden inside two small boxes on each side of the room, ready to glide out and “close” the bedroom.
All materials are locally sourced woods — birch and oak. Besides the natural wood tones, color is added with water-based paints in shades of green and blue, inspired by the trees, the water, and the sky.
